Duties & Responsibilities: Registered nurses provide and attend patient care, educate patients and the public about health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support and their family members. They record patients’ medical histories and symptoms, help perform test and analyze the results, operate and monitor medical equipment. Most registered nurses work as part of a team with physicians and other healthcare specialists. Registered nurses’ duties and titles often depend on where they work and the patients they work with. They may work to promote public health by educating people on warning signs and symptoms of disease or managing chronic health conditions.
Salary: $68,450 per year
           $32.91 per hour
Education: Registered nurses usually take one of three education paths: a bachelor’s degree in nursing, an associates’s degree in nursing or a diploma from an approved nursing program. Registered nurses must be licensed. Many registered nurses with an ADN or diploma choose to go back to earn a bachelor’s degree through a RN-to-BSN program.
Demand or Need: The employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 16 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average jobs.
Reflection: Yes, I would like to become a registered nurse because I would like to work with people and I need a job where there is a lot of movement.
