Duties and Responsibilities: Veterinarians help and care for animals. They work to improve health. They diagnose, treat, and research medical conditions and diseases of pets and other animals. Veterinarians examine animals to diagnose their problem. They treat wounds, perform surgery on the animals, prescribe medication, they operate medical equipment and they advise the owners about the care, treatment and medical conditions of the animal. There are five types of veterinarians. The first one is the companion animal veterinarians - treat pets and work in private  clinic and hospitals. Equine Veterinarians - work with horses. Food animal veterinarians - work with farm animals. Food safety and inspection veterinarians - inspect and test animal products for animals disease, provide vaccines to treat animals, enhance animal welfare, conduct research to improve animal health and enforce government food safety regulations. Research veterinarians - work in laboratories, conducting clinical research on human and animal health problems.  
Salary: Median annual wage $88,770
Education: Veterinarians need to complete a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at a college of veterinary medicine. There are 30 colleges with programs in the United States. A veterinary medicine program takes 4 years to complete. Veterinary medical colleges require the student to take sciences classes like, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, zoology, microbiology, and animal science.

Demand: The employment of veterinarians is predicted to grow 9 percent from 2014 to 2024.
