I believe Alexander Pope is meaning that if you act well you will be honored. For example if you become a leader or a role model to your younger siblings, then they will like to follow your footsteps. You always need to become a good leader and role model because who knows many people would like to follow your footsteps and they will honor you. But if you become a bad leader or role model then your siblings or other people might think it would be cool to be bad and mistreat others. You will probably honor yourself if you do good your whole life.
