Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
If you decide to work directly with patients then you would :
- Play board games with the patient
- Reading to them (needs 10 hours of training)
- Help in hospital playrooms (sometimes at their bedside)
If you decide to volunteer outside of the hospital you can:
- Start an online fundraising page
- Create a fundraising event
Volunteer Requirements must be:
- 15 years old
- 18 years old to work directly with patients
- Good mental health and physical
- Need to communicate in English
- Need to volunteer one 3-4 hour shifts for 8 weeks as a patients or family escort
Commitment needed would be:
- Need to complete 100 hours in less than six months of the service
- Need to go to training,testing and orientations for each volunteer
Personal Interview and Competency Test Completion:
- Related to Confidentiality Policy
- Work with hospitalized patients
Health Clearance Examination includes:
- 2 vaccinations for measles, mumps, and rubella given as a child for people born after 1957, or one MMR received after the age of 17
- TB skin test for tuberculosis
- Alcohol and Drug screening
Volunteer Uniform:
- Need to buy and wear a uniform that’s the price of $15
Before you volunteer you need to schedule a completion of:
- Purchase of a volunteer uniform
- Two-hour patient care orientation by the Child Life Department
- Health Clearance of the Employee Health Services Department
- Three-hour General Orientation
- Personal interview with the Volunteer Coordinator
