“I have been asked what I mean by ‘word of honor.’ I will tell you. Place me behind prison walls–walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground–there is a possibility that in some way or another I may escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of the circle? No. Never! I’d die first!”
~ Karl G. Maeser

What I think Karl G. Maeser means in the statement above is that he will always keep his word no matter what is going on. For example he stated “Place me behind prison walls–walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground–there is a possibility that in some way or another I may escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of the circle? No. Never! I’d die first!” That means that he would do what he is told. He would not cross the line because he kept his word of honor. For example if your friend tells you a secret and he/she says you have to keep your word of honor, you have to keep it, you cannot tell anyone. But if you do break the word of honor then that just means that people cannot trust you. So in my opinion you have to keep your word of honor to become a ctr person.
