Memorial Day is on the last Monday in May, each and every year. Memorial Day was establish to recognize and honor U.S soldiers who died in the battle of duty or military service. To celebrate people can visit cemeteries and memorials of the fallen. A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3pm. Memorial Day is also called Decoration Day it started in the late 1860s to remember those who lost their lives fighting the Civil War. Originally, MEMORIAL Day honored those who died in the Civil War. Now it honors those who died in the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam and Desert Storm. Today, Memorial Day is celebrated at Arlington National Cemetery with a ceremony in which a small American flag is placed on each grave. Also, it is tradition that the president or vice-president to give a speech honoring the contributions of the dead and lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. About 5,000 people attend. What I would do on Memorial Day where we would invite friends and family members to celebrate the holiday.  What I think about Memorial Day is that it is sad that those soldiers had to die in the Civil War and many men were forced to join the army.  Also those men and women who died serving the U.S. military. “My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” John F.
